The Wind… {Hannah – 2011 Senior}

…is our friend. Repeat. The wind is our friend. At times it’s really hard to convince myself that the wind is on our side. Then, I look through session images like these and see the wind as my beauty assistant, giving hair a little extra “oomph” and attitude. Thanks wind.

September Baby Boom

I think it’s safe to say that I took full advantage of the fair this year. It’s one week when Clovis is actually overwhelmed with color and things to do.

I’m so thankful this family’s shoot coincided with the fair, because it truly reflects their personalities. Major props to this Mommy….it’s no easy task having a photographer follow you around when you’re in all your preggo glory. For some reason it’s an open invitation for EVERYONE and the lumberjack to come ask you questions. However, she dealt with all the attention with pure grace and tact.

Girl – you are truly gorgeous.

One reason I love this pic (other than for Cheryl’s gorgeous laugh) is that Daddy and son have the same, “why exactly do I have my hands up” expression.

I think it’s safe to say this little cutie enjoyed his pics at the fair. All we really asked him to do was have a good time. In my opinion, that’s how a photo shoot should be for a 2 year old.

I can’t wait to meet your little girl in just a few weeks!

Morning Fair {Delanie – 2011 Senior at Texico High}

It’s 6am at the county fairgrounds.

What do you think you find?

Clowns, balloons, funnel cakes, ‘carnies’?

Nope… just sweet, colorful tranquility.

If you’d visited on Wednesday you would have also found this gorgeous senior, her Mom and a sleepy photographer.

Summer Colors

When this cute brother and sister arrived for their session they were in dreamland. Their Mommy had super planning because when they woke up they were perfect angels and made the session fly by.

A good game of hide-and-seek never gets old.

Organized Chaos

I have a confession to make. Normally, I don’t photograph large families. In fact, quite a few times, I’ve referred them to other photographers. It’s not that I don’t LOVE large families…I just find that 2 hours is never enough time to capture them as I prefer, in their natural state. I usually just walk away wanting more time to get to know them…..

However, when I received an email from a super thoughtful daughter that wanted to buy a 35th anniversary gift for her parents it was difficult to say “no”. It didn’t help that I had already been smitten by her family last year when I took their Christmas pictures. I knew if the rest of the family were anything like her I couldn’t deny the opportunity to meet them and capture this special time.

So… I did it.

I photographed 16 people and have the pics to prove it. While I still wish I had 3, 4, 5, 6, 10 extra hours with them, I’m just thankful I had 2.

I wish I had a picture of all the parents standing behind me. They really worked for this picture!

This family is in the process of adopting a little boy from Ethiopia. Since he’s not able to be here in the photos, but certainly is in their hearts, they chose to capture his presence in a tangible way…with red strings.

The Red String of Fate” or the “Red String of Destiny” is a Chinese legend. The legend explains that two people who are destined to be together are connected by an invisible red string.

Sunshine

I was a bit leery about this photo shoot because of the looming storm clouds and muddy fields. However, when this mommy-to-be stepped out of the car I knew everything would fall into place. Dressed in a bold, blue dress and yellow scarf, she looked so beautiful and was truly glowing…like sunshine. I knew a background of sunflowers were the only backdrop that would do her justice.

They enjoyed a dance in the cornfield.

During maternity shoots I love to quietly slip away into the distance and capture the serene, natural moments of anticipation.

I can’t WAIT to meet your little girl in October. I have a feeling she’s going to be the best dressed and bow adorned newborn in Clovis.
